German U-Boot U-48 type VIIB was introduced to active service in Kriegsmarine in 1939. Of all the submarines fighting during World War II, it was he who sank the vessels with the largest total tonnage, breaking the infamous record. U-48 sent a total of 55 units to the bottom. It sank on May 3, 1945, sunk by its own crew in the Bay of Lubeck.
