Spitfire F.Mk. VII
The Supermarine Spitfire Mk VII is developed with the specific aim of providing the British RAF with an effective high altitude fighter. The previous version Mk VI was in fact not considered suitable for operational use and to face possible incursions, however never happened, of high altitude bombers. The Mk VII, especially in the configuration with the powerful and reliable Merlin 71 engine, managed to reach 13,700 meters above sea level, guaranteeing superb performance and outperforming previous versions. The Spitfire Mk VII was characterized by the pressurized cabin, the four-blade propeller, a longer fuselage and the innovative wing with a pointed design at the ends. It remained in production from August 1942 to the first months of 1944 and was made in more than 140 copies.
