Wax cloths can be changed often because of their low price. The wax cloth cannot be washed in the machine, but instead is wiped with dishwashing liquid or soap daily.

Wax fabric was originally wax-treated cotton fabric similar to oilcloth, until plastic treatment replaced wax in the 1950s and 1960s.
