Il Gripen appartiene alla generazione dei più recenti caccia europei, quali il Rafale e l’Eurofighter Thypoon e si pone quale rivale nell’esportazione agli F-16 ed F/A-18 americani delle serie più recenti. Questo elegante ed estremamente manovrabile aereo è in grado di utilizzare un ampio armamento missilistico aria-aria ed aria-superficie per i ruoli di difesa aerea, attacco e interdizione antinave.
